European regulators have dropped the ban on in-flight cell phone calls, but the passengers ability to chat will depend on which airline they fly.
Regulators of the European Union on Monday loosened the rules on mobile phone service, satellite-based technology that can be of a captain to over 10000 meters. It can also be disabled at any time.
The ban will remain in the United States, the US airlines are not affected.
Air France last week was the first international airline to offer wireless service as part of a six-month test to measure customer response.
Other carriers, however, are shying away from the function, saying that the passengers do not want to talk and ring tones invading their space.
